Having built up a respectable portfolio of single-family houses, my management partner, Wes Weaver and I have begun efforts to expand our investments into commercial real estate in addition to our single-family properties.
Why? Personal and professional growth. There is a school of thought that once you get good at something and make money at it, you should stick to it and NOT make changes. If that were true, I could have been stuck at Walt Disney World trying to become a Fast Food Supervisor/Area Manager. Or I could have been trying to become General Manager of a Hotel. Or I could have been a I.T. Manager/Director for some company. Or I could have been a Accounting Manager/Comptroller. This list could have included many more very real scenarios.
However, I did not end up in those positions because I chose to move on and grow in very unpredictable ways such as becoming an entrepreneur, real estate investor, publisher, and author. Obviously, I am proponent of change and growth. Does it involve risk? Yes, but it does not have to be risky.
Getting the right education is important, doing the right research is important, and having the right mindset is important. Why am I making these points? As a publisher and author, I am a teacher. However, in the realm of Commercial Real Estate Investing, I have become a beginner student just like any other newbie. However, the notable difference is that we do have experience in buying, holding, renovating, and managing properties. We believe it will serve us well.
We have a high-degree of credibility coming from the single-family property side of things. So we are optimistic we will be able to enter the new real of commercial real estate investing. We have no illusions or delusions that we will get everything right or that we might not incur losses and expenses along the way. However, it is part of the learning process.
That is why Wes and I continue to work as a management team. We have 2 sets of eyes and ears, 2 brains, and 2 perspectives which we believe will increase our chances of success.
We are looking forward to this new endeavor and believe it will take us further in our professional and personal growth in ways we cannot see now.
